A hands-on citrus care workshop will be held at Farm Vigano, providing participants with practical skills and knowledge to care for, maintain, and prune citrus trees for long-term health and productivity. The workshop focuses on understanding citrus tree growth patterns, developing strong tree structure, and encouraging productive fruiting wood to maximise yields in home orchards.
The workshop is led by Justin Calverley, a fully qualified horticulturist with more than 35 years of industry experience and over 15 years of workshop delivery across Melbourne. He operates the design, consultation, and education business Sensory Gardens and is the author of The Urban Farmer and The Urban Food Forester. Justin also shares his expertise through regular radio appearances on 3RRR Breakfasters and ABC Radio Melbourne Evenings.
Combining theory-based learning in the cottage with practical demonstrations and guided activities in the orchard, the workshop offers an immersive outdoor learning experience. Participants will learn how to identify key tree structures, understand annual growth cycles, manage pests and diseases, distinguish between fruiting and non-fruiting wood, and apply effective pruning techniques to both young and mature citrus trees.
Designed for beginner to intermediate gardeners, backyard fruit tree owners, and those interested in sustainable food production, the session is delivered in a small-group format to provide individual guidance, hands-on support, and direct access to expert instruction.
Limited spots are available and needs to be pre-booked online here.
