As part of the Open House Melbourne weekend, we invited visitors behind the bluestone walls of Jack’s Magazine on Saturday 29th July, to experience the tunnels, tramways, and towering earth mounds of this remarkable heritage place. Over 600 people toured this mammoth heritage site which once stored more than 200 tonnes of explosives earning the region its nickname 'Australia's arsenal'. Visitors had the opportunity to see inside some of the site’s main buildings, including the cavernous space of the nineteenth-century gunpowder store.

In addition to bringing power and water to the site, Working Heritage has carried out various works to improve public accessibility. Our vision is to adapt this site into a multi-use community use space ranging from dining, wedding, and entertainment.
